E-learning support for primary and secondary leading teachers in gifted and talented
Tuesday 31/03/2009
Four new interactive e-learning resources on music, PE and sport, secondary science, and English as an additional language are now available online to support the professional development of leading teachers for gifted and talented (G&T) education across all phases.
The e-learning modules provide opportunities to reflect on effective practice, evaluate outcomes and identify action points arising from classroom and collaborative school-based activities. To access the materials, please visit ‘Leading teachers’ within the gifted and talented section of the Inclusion area at: www.standards.dcsf.gov.uk/nationalstrategies
Forming part of the National Strategies’ Continuing Professional Development package, the materials offer professional development opportunities on teaching and learning, developing good practice, working with parents and carers, transfer and transition, supporting learners with particular needs, learning beyond the classroom, career development, primary science and English and mathematics,
The suite includes generic and subject-specific modules and, as well as professional development opportunities for leading teachers, they offer a training resource for all teaching practitioners.
Carol Singh, Senior Advisor (Gifted and Talented Programme) for the National Strategies said: “The most important aspect of provision for gifted and talented pupils is the day-to-day experience of learning and teaching in the classroom. These modules provide an up-to-date CPD resource to help practitioners meet the needs of all pupils.”
The National Strategies Gifted and Talented (G&T) programme is designed to bring challenge and extend opportunities in the classroom so that the special gifts, abilities and talents of all pupils are revealed and nurtured and pupils are able to fulfil their potential.
